Andrew Ward, 39, of Elizabethtown has been identified as the man police fatally shot outside the Northwest Regional Police Station on Elizabethtown Road at at 1:43 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, according to the DA's updated release and as Daily Voice previously reported.

His cause of death was "gunshot wounds to the body" and the manner was ruled "homicide" by the Lancaster County Coroner.

Officers from the Northwest Regional Police Department released Ward to his spouse following his DUI around 9:45 p.m., as explained in the updated release. He returned to the police station at approximately 1:33 a.m. "to speak with officers about his personal property," the DA wrote in the release.

An officer initially spoke with Ward outside, then requested another officer for backup, according to a preliminary investigation. "Ward was pronounced dead at the scene after life saving measures were taken," the DA said.

A handgun registered to Ward was later found at the scene.

The Lancaster County Detectives and Pennsylvania State Police were soon called to the scene. Interviews with those involved and reviewing of video footage are ongoing.

The DA's office continues to investigate this fatal officer-involved shooting.

"The District Attorney will make final determination on the police action after the completion of the investigation," the updated release concluded.
